In the August, 2005 issue of Scene in SA magazine, San Antonio lawyers who have practiced at least ten years were asked to name their picks for best San Antonio lawyers in various areas of practice, such as Criminal Defense, Personal Injury Law, Real Estate Law, etc.. Lawyers could not vote for themselves, and each lawyer licensed to practice for more than ten years received only one ballot.

John Fahle is proud to have been chosen by these peers as one of the best criminal defense attorneys in San Antonio. The article, which gives more detail on the methodology of the survey, is shown below.

"Lawyers are an essential adjunct in our personal and professional lives. From entrepreneurs seeking to start a new business to unhappy couples wanting to obtain a divorce, clients depend on lawyers to guide them through the complex world of litigation. In San Antonio, where there are about 5,000 lawyers in a variety of fields, there is plenty of legal counsel to choose from.

But sometimes a wealth of choice makes selecting a lawyer difficult. Who specializes in the area you need, and at what price? Our second annual "Survey of Best Lawyers" may help you decide.

This year, Scene in SA mailed more than 3,000 surveys to lawyers who have been practicing in San Antonio for 10 years or more. They were asked to provide the names of their peers who they thought were the "best" in 14 specialties.

The surveys are a bit different from last years': A "Corporate & Securities Law" field was added; "Malpractice & Personal Injury" was split along plaintiff and defense lines; "Tax Law" and "Trust and Estate Law" were separated; "Prosecutors in the District Attorney's Office" was added and "Intellectual Property Law" was dissolved.

As you read the survey, you will notice asterisks by some names. One asterisk denotes the lawyers whose number of votes placed them in the top 10 percent. Two asterisks denote a lawyer who has placed an ad in our SA LAW special advertising section; flip to that section to read more about these premier attorneys.

Breakout boxes are also included for at-a-glance information about the top 10 lawyers with the overall most votes. There are actually more than 10 lawyers listed in this sidebar, as some lawyers were tied in rank. The firms whose partners were voted for most frequently in the survey also are listed in an easy-to-read breakout box.

The Scene staff feels confident that comprehensive legal ground was covered through the inclusion of the chosen fields and that local lawyers with longevity are a reliable source for recommending other lawyers as proficient. However, this list is not intended to be an endorsement of the selected lawyers. If you are pleased with your current legal representation, please do not infer that their possible omission from the list means that they are not the best legal counsel for you.
